Each art has its own line of life. Some of them are flourishing while others are decaying. Similar thing is typical of both for and in the world art in general.

Russia has taken the European tradition in its classical perspective in the late 17th - early 18 centuries. The golden age of painting was glorified Italy, Holland and France, although they had the necessary qualities.

Classicism easily found acceptance in Russia, because a Russian person is mentally rational, and the art of classicism is notable for big rationality, and thus it is concordant with the Russian character. In this respect, one should note the great contribution of the government to the increase of the prestige of the profession and the mollified the morals, sometimes even to the prejudice of itself.

The happy combination of these qualities led to the creation of quite a strong classical school in Russia and to the unusual uprise of Russian culture in the late 19th century, when Russian art organically flew into the All-European one. Achievements of that time still remain unsurpassed. The relatively late start of Russia has freed its art from the burden of unnecessary prejudices, which in its turn gave rise to the phenomenon of Russian avant-garde. Unfortunately, after the revolution of 1917, artistry was forced out of life and replaced by political agitation and propaganda. But, besides, the the decades of the anti-human, the socialist revolution, became a kind of paradoxical time machine, in which the people of the United States have accidentally lived through the awful scenarios of the future. This quite gloomy period still waits for its researcher, but for us it is important, that with its end the Russians found themselves in the absolutely unusual situation: market, the world of art and commercial institutes in Russia, for some reason, do not exert such influence, which has a decisive effect on the formation of the artistic scene. This situation leads to a certain stagnation of artists working for the unpretentious taste of a contemporary, but the most valuable in it is the fact that, after many decades of forced isolation, having reentered the world of the art process, they immediately found themselves in the post-postmodernism situation, and this opens for the Russian art of the 21st century quite new prospects, moving the experience of destructive experiments of the 20th century still dominating over the European art to the speculative area.

The creative activity of Alexey Golovin, whose range of interests is art is wholly determined by the classical tradition, to our mind, serves as a good illustration to the above considerations.

Stylistics of classicism offers the author a ready repertoire of forms. This is especially topical in connection with the mythology of the modern culture space, the reason of which is the suitability of the myth to the psychological mechanisms of mass consciousness. Two spheres are correlated with each other in the space of the commonness: the sphere of mass stereotypes on the one hand, and the sphere of the individual on the other hand. This duality assists the culture in the context of the mythological models that normalize relations of a person and a society. It finds its plastic solution in the art of Alexey Golovin through the combination of mass culture icons and the aesthetic reception of the ancient myths reduced to a sign. Igor Glazov
