Aof Smith is an Asian artist based in Bangkok, Thailand. His works capture various feelings from a journey of a normal lifetime that been through the fast approach of several feelings.
What is your biggest source of inspiration?
The news and issue that happens around us. The way people are in their mind.
When was the first moment you decided you wanted to be an artist?
On the day I started a full-time job.
Painting is your primary medium, but do you work in other mediums or explore other styles?
I do sculptures as well so there are different dimension when audience look at my artworks.

If you could work with another artist, who would it be? / who is your favorite artist?
Ron English. He gave me really good thought about being an artist.
Is there any particular music you tend to listen to while working?
Not likely now, but I like the pop rock from the 90s. At present, I listen to the news and sometime Buddhist teaching on Youtube.

What is your ideal day?
To be able to have work progress every day.
Can you tell us a bit about your process, from concept to creation?
I pick up topics from what I observe from present events and question them. Trying to find the truth and not believe in what had been said by others.
I always have a finished piece in my mind. Then do some rough sketch, research on characters and more about the particular topic and start to paint.

Who is your role model?
My father, I remembered seeing him paint ever since I was young and he is still painting now.
If you could do anything, what would it be?
I have an obsession on vintage second-hand t-shirts. I would spend time going around and collect them…

What’s one of your deepest values or most important topics to you, and how do you communicate that with your art?
Irony and sarcasm. Imply them through the main and small characters I create.
How has your art changed throughout your life?
It changes with what I go through in my life. I don’t stick with only one topic or style.

What is your dream project?
To give my artworks a chance to be shown in a different county.
